NEW YORK -- Former US President Donald Trump said on social media that he was shot at a rally in Butler, US state of Pennsylvania, on Saturday.

"I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear," he said on his social media platform Truth Social.

The shooter at former US President Donald Trump's rally was killed by Secret Service personnel, the US Secret Service said in a statement, adding that one spectator was killed in the incident, while another two were critically injured.

US President Joe Biden on Saturday spoke with former US President Donald Trump on phone after the latter was injured in a shooting incident at a campaign rally in Butler in the state of Pennsylvania, media reported.

"We cannot allow this to be happening," Biden said. "The idea that there’s violence in America like this is just unheard of."

The Biden campaign said Saturday that it was pausing all messaging to supporters and working to pull down all of its television ads as quickly as possible in light of the shooting.
