My Favorite Movie——童思尧

My Favorite Movie

This winter holiday I watched the movie The Pursuit of Happyness. It leaves me a smile on my face and warmth in my heart.

It’s based on a true story and full of love, pain, and hope. Gardner Chris is a struggling salesman. As he tries to sell his scanners, his wife leaves him because of the hard life, then he loses his house and finds out the government takes the last bit of money in his bank account for taxes. He has all sorts of difficulties with his son Christopher. But by virtue of diligence and intelligence, he catches the chance to fight for a stockbroker internship position at Dean Witter, vying for a career with other twenty candidates. In the end, Gardner becomes an excellent stockbroker and goes on to form his own multimillion-dollar brokerage firm.

There’s an interesting plot in the final scene: they father and son walk down the street, joking with each other. They are passed by a man in a business suit, that’s the real Chris Gardner in a cameo appearance!

The movie leaves me asking myself a question that I have never thought about: how long would I keep battling to get what I really want out of life? I calm down, and ponder over it carefully.

At first, I was confused by the word “happyness” in the title. After watching I understand it’s deliberately misspelled. It means there is no “y”(why) in happiness, only “i”(I). And that’s the purpose of the movie.

If we want happiness, the only thing we can do is striving for our own happiness on our own.

Finally, I want to finish the article with a verse excerpt from a gorgeous poem.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy. ( Max Ehrmann, Desiderata, Copyright 1952.)

Some touching lines:

1. Don't ever let somebody tell you...you can't do something. Not even me.

2. You got a dream, you gotta protect it.

3. People can't do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it.

4. If you want something, go get it. Period.
