The Kapok Tree

The kapok tree has very tall and straight trunk, very spread crotches, very wide crown and very Turkey red flowers. Kapok flower is the city flowers of Guangzhou. We people of Guangzhou love the kapok tree very much.

In the early spring, when other trees just start to grow new leaves, Kapok flowers are already fervidly blooming, showing proud to the world. They bloom every corner of our city. You can see them standing by the roadsides, as loyal guardians. You can see them in the park, there into the bosky wood, look like confident leaders. You can see them in the campus, their gorgeous flowers awaken all the dormient hearts. 

In a quiet summer night, the kapok flowers fall down after a rain. Facing the shatter everywhere, we are so sentimental. Is the kapok tree has tasted our sad? In the next morning, they send us eyeful surprises, their new green coat. Every kapok tree looks like a beautiful umbrella, so fresh, so hopeful!

In the golden autumn, the kapok seeds are mature. They offered us the kapok cotton. We often use it to make pillows. Its soft and warm bring us to the sweet dream every night.

In the cold winter wind, all the leaves go with the wind. The kapok trees still stand there straightly and strong, never fear of cold, wind or rain, like heroes. They are waiting their Turkey red flowers, just like the hero’s blood, blooming again in the next season. So we also call the kapok tree the hero tree.

Hero tree, what a great name! All the people of our Guangzhou city are so proud of our hero tree, since we regard it as the symbol of our city spirit. I like the hero tree, and I like my city.
