On the Trojan War After finishing the movie called the Trojan War, the values that westerners held and the life enigma began to dawn upon me. I classified them into three aspects: gender discrimination; life nature of struggling by oneself; strong belief in human power. First, I would like to make comments from the feminine aspect. In the story of the Trojan War, it was recorded that the abduction of Sparta’s beautiful queen Helen triggered the war. Towards this, I had doubts that how could the weak queen succeed in escaping the heavily guarded Sparta. Certainly, the successful escape was own to Paris arrangement. So, to go deeper, it was not difficult to find that it’s the man’s libido which triggered the cruel war. However, people seldom blamed the real guilty man but attributed all the suffering and duty to a weak woman. In my opinion, the unfair treatment was due to the lower status of women who served as a good excuse for their greed for power. Therefore, I could say the gender discrimination was overflowed at that time. Then, I moved to analyze the life nature reflected in the movie. In western society, there was a prevailing belief that people should work hard to offset the original sin which they were born with so that they could obtain salvation. It seemed to be similar to the belief of the hero Achilles who chose the way to fight in the battlefield for gaining his own glory instead of leading a cozy life. As far as I’m concerned, the Achilles’ choice mirrored the value people held towards hero, and also the nature of life. They valued your own hard work more than your family background. At last, I gave a detailed explanation of the strong belief in human power within the Trojan War.3200 years ago, people all honored the gods. Yet, the invulnerable half-god Achilles who conquered hundreds of cities, were believed not so perfect. He still had his weak point and could not avoid dying. It’s people’s great acknowledgment that even god also belonged to human and possessed their defects. Besides, as the Troy was said to be protected by Apollo, the god of the sun. Even so, the Greek insisted launching the war to sack the Troy. Needless to say, it was a strong belief in human power which challenged the power of gods. However, from my point of view, at last, they had not knocked down the confinement of the society. The writer designed an ignoble dying way of the hero Achilles who had offended the Apollo and destroyed the temple of god. So, in conclusion, although they realized the human’s great power, they were still influenced by the belief of god more or less. |
